2 men charged following cocaine and marijuana bust

On Jan. 30, Wisconsin authorities reported that they seized about $440,000 worth of drugs and other associated items from several residences. The two people who were accused of being involved in the case were identified as a 33-year-old man and a 24-year-old man.

The task force, which was a combination of the Madison police, the Dane County Narcotics Task Force and other police agencies, reported that it found two kilograms of cocaine, 70 pounds of marijuana, four guns and more than $20,000 in cash in the residences. The two men were ultimately charged with multiple drug offenses, including cocaine possession, intent to deliver cocaine, possession of marijuana and intent to deliver marijuana. Authorities stated that the cases may potentially be tried in federal court.

When people are facing drug charges that are associated with drug trafficking, the potential consequences of a conviction can be significant. Depending on the amount of drugs that were seized, they may potentially face years of prison, expensive fines and years of probation upon their release. In some cases, they may be unable to find work or finish their education due to their criminal record.

A criminal defense attorney may examine such a case to determine if there are opportunities to get the charges reduced or even dismissed. For example, first-time offenders may be eligible to seek drug treatment instead of getting sent to jail. This option may also help keep their records clean so that their options are not limited once the case is over.
