Man faces multiple drug charges following investigation

A Wisconsin man is facing multiple drug-related charges in connection with a "buy-bust" operation that took place in Racine on March 20. According to media sources, law enforcement officials were assisted in the effort by a local resident. This informant, who had previously seen a friend overdose, asked the 21-year-old man to deliver a controlled substance to her home. She reportedly told authorities that the man would most likely be carrying at least one gram of heroin as well as crack cocaine on his person upon his anticipated arrival at her apartment.

The informant also said that the man had delivered illegal drugs to her residence prior to the operation. In addition, charges of misdemeanor attempted forgery and felony possession of a controlled substance had previously been filed against the man in Lake County, Illinois.

The man arrived at the informant's location approximately 10 minutes after she requested the delivery. He called to let her know that he was there before officers converged on his vehicle. Because he matched the description provided, the man was detained. During the investigation that followed, the man became uncooperative when police detected a large mass along his inner thigh, and he was subdued to the ground. Officers subsequently recovered 6.1 grams of heroin, 6.3 grams of crack cocaine and 5.8 grams of marijuana. The heroin was packaged in individually wrapped bags.

Drug charges that include trafficking are very serious, and the penalties if a conviction is obtained can be severe. Depending upon the evidence, an attorney may be able to find a deficiency in the prosecution's case and achieve a dismissal or reduction of the charges.
