DUI charge for Tiger Woods on Memorial Day

Wisconsin golf fans may have heard about Tiger Woods' arrest for a suspected DUI. The incident happened on May 29 around 3 a.m. in Florida.

Woods was reportedly stopped by law enforcement officers with the Jupiter Police Department on Military Trail, which is a six-lane road near Indian Creek Parkway in Palm Beach County, Florida. He was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail at 7:48 a.m. and was released on his own recognizance at 10:50 a.m.

Woods released a statement about the incident in which he said that he accepted full responsibility for what happened. He said that he wanted the public to know that he had not drunk any alcohol. Instead, Woods said that he had a reaction to some prescription medications that he has been taking. Woods reportedly had a fusion surgery on his back on April 20 and is expected to remain out for the rest of this season as he recovers from it.

It is important for people to understand that they can be charged with a DUI when they are impaired by drugs, even lawfully obtained prescription medications. People who have been charged with drugged driving might need to get help from a criminal defense attorney who is experienced in defending against such allegations. The attorneys may secure more favorable plea agreements than their clients might be able to get on their own. They may also see constitutional problems with how the arresting officers conducted the traffic stop. If they do, they may file motions asking for the evidence against their clients is suppressed. If successful, this could lead to a dismissal of the charges.
