Rapper Fetty Wap was taken into police custody on Nov. 3 after failing a roadside sobriety test, and rap enthusiasts in Wisconsin may want to know more about events surrounding the incident. According to media sources, the “My Way” star was pulled over by New York City police following a drag-racing incident in Brooklyn. Sources say that the rapper showed police an expired driver’s license during the preliminary investigation.
The early-morning incident took place on the Gowanus Expressway. Officials allege that the New Jersey native was driving a 2015 Mercedes-Benz at speeds in excess of 100 MPH in a 50 MPH zone. Reports indicate that one additional driver may have been involved in the incident. That driver has not been named in TMZ news reports.
As seen in a photo posted to Instagram on Nov. 2, the 26-year-old musician was hanging out with friends at a gas station prior to the traffic stop. Following the incident, Fetty is facing DWI and 14 additional charges. These charges include following too closely, driving without a valid driver’s license and illegal signaling. The star’s blood-alcohol content was reportedly .09 percent at the time that the incident occurred. Sources expected Fetty to be processed and released before the end of the morning.
In Wisconsin, drivers who are charged with drunk driving may face stiff penalties even if their charges are not criminal. Because having a DUI or OWI on record can negatively affect a driver’s future prospects, a charged individual may find it beneficial to retain a criminal defense lawyer for representation. In some situations, the lawyer may be able to challenge the prosecution’s evidence, which could potentially lead to a reduction of the charges or dismissal of the case.
