Police in Wisconsin have reported that four individuals were taken into custody on Feb. 16 after drugs, firearms and cash were allegedly discovered when two Rock County residences were searched. Initial accounts indicate that officers from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office and the Beloit Police Department were involved. Police say that the search warrants were issued based on evidence gathered during an investigation into marijuana and cocaine distribution in the area.
Police units including members of the RCSO SWAT team and the BPD’s Special Investigations Unit say that about 111 grams of marijuana, 50 grams of cocaine and 1.1 grams of psilocybin mushrooms were seized along with two handguns and $2,000 in cash at homes on West Grand Avenue in Beloit and South County Road D in Rock Township. According to reports, the individuals detained by police were transported to the Rock County Jail after being processed and are scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 19.
The 25-year-old man, 22-year-old man, 25-year-old woman and 18-year-old woman face a raft of narcotics possession and distribution charges in connection with the drug hauls. Some of the suspects also face counts of child neglect, illegal gun possession, carrying a concealed weapon and violating the terms of their probation.
Individuals taken into custody on drug charges in Wisconsin are often urged to cooperate with law enforcement in return for more lenient treatment, but experienced criminal defense attorneys may advise them to remain silent until such offers are made by prosecutors who have the authority to enter into negotiated plea agreements. Attorneys could also remind criminal suspects who face long periods of incarceration that even seemingly compelling cases may be difficult to prove beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
